Step One: Building a web presence!
With all the advances of social and professional networking it is important to show an Internet presence. We suggest that you establish a LinkedIn page. Go to http://www.linkedin.com/profile/edit, but before you do that you should go to our resource pages and build your resume. Once you have completed that, you should save the document to a pdf file. Now that you have completed the resume and have saved it in a pdf format, you can upload it to your LinkedIn page. You could also upload your picture to the LinkedIn page as well. Your photo should be somewhat conservative and professional. Remember, you are trying to get hired. And should you be really aggressive, you might want to consider posting a 30 second video presentation/ introduction / advertisement to http://www.YOUTube.com Now with that stated, you must know that the picture and video are NOT required, nor is a prospective employer going to ask for them, as it is NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED FOR A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER TO ASK FOR THEM. You should always be critiquing you photo and video. Both Linkedin.com and YouTube.com have on-going 24/7 ability to replace or remove your picture and video clip. However, just preparing the video clip will help prepare you for interviews. Remember the opening question in most interviews begins with, "Tell me a little bit about you and your career aspirations."
Once you have built your web pages, review them in search of any errors. You should also ask friends and family for input as to the value they add.
Step Two: Your Marketing Strategy
Now you are ready to go on to Step Two - Your Marketing Strategy.
Your marketing strategy needs to encompass three fronts. Click each topic for specific details. This website will discuss and provide you with tools to initiate campaigns in the following arenas.
2) Traditional.
a. National and local recruiters.
b. Newspapers and trade journals.
c. Job fairs.
3) Networking / Referral Method.
You should consider initiating these campaigns in the order in which they are listed. Although the "Networking / Referral Method" appears last, it is the most productive and successful, but takes considerable effort and energy.
The first two are easier to establish and maintain, therefore, deal with them first. By attacking them first it will allow their process and maintenance to be on-going while you focus the majority of your energy and efforts on the "Networking and Referral Method". Prior to initiating any of the three, you should make sure that you have some basic and professional looking business cards and stationary. We have included some proven samples for your consideration, including an easy method for you to adapt them with your information. Whether or not you use them is your decision, but make sure you have them ready for use.
